By Laura Seitz-WaldmanThe National Pet Insurance Alliance is working to find cheaper pet insurance for people who are considering buying a pet.
Insurance for pets can be expensive, but it’s also one of the most important things you can do to reduce your pet’s cost of care.
Here’s how to find the cheapest pet insurance options on the market:Insurance is expensive for pet owners.
Pet insurance companies typically charge premiums that are between one-third and one-half the cost of the coverage offered by an automobile or home insurance policy, according to a recent report from the American Pet Insurance Association.
For instance, Petco has a premium of about $9,600 per year for its basic pet policy, but that premium goes up to $17,000 for premium-priced premium policies that include a range of veterinary care services, preventive care and vaccinations, according.
Petco also offers a “Pet-in-Home” policy that lets pet owners rent out their home to their pet, giving them the option to save up to 80 percent of the annual cost of pet insurance.
“It’s a great way to help people save money,” said Paul M. Haines, senior vice president of policy at Petco, which is based in Grand Rapids, Mich.
In addition to pet insurance premiums, PetCo offers the following pet insurance benefits:• The policy is generally less expensive than automobile or homeowner policies because it offers more preventive care.• The pet can have a lower deductible because of its shorter life expectancy.• Pet owners can deduct their pet’s medication costs for treatment.
Pet insurance companies also can help people get a cheaper rate if they have a pet who needs to be hospitalized or has a high cost of medication.
But, in general, pet insurance policies are a good idea if you plan on owning a pet and don’t want to pay full price for coverage.

PetCo offers a free two-year membership to its pet insurance service for people under 30.
Petco also has a “No Contract” pet insurance plan, which pays no premium for pet insurance coverage.
Pet owner insurance, also called “insurance for the pet owner,” is not required.
However, many people are worried about their pets’ health when they buy a pet insurance product.
This is because pet owners often worry about their health when getting sick and not getting a discounted rate because they do not have to pay for pet care and vaccines.
Pets are not eligible for health insurance until they are 2 years old, so people should check with their insurance company to determine whether or not their pet is eligible for coverage, according, according Petco.
